At age sixteen, he landed his first position as Art Director for the local newspaper "The Ledger" in Montrose, California. Later he completed technical college programs in Technical Illustration, Photography and Sign Art.
At the age of 21, with a group of talented artists, the company "Total Graphics" was created. The firm specialized in Advertising, Signage and Quality Printing. They produced printed advertising and fabricated major identification and way-finding signage projects for Walt Disney Imagineering (Disneyland), The Epcot Center Florida, Capital Records, The Los Angeles Dodger Organization, BOMA (Builders, Owners & Managers Association of Los Angeles), RREEF Management, The Huntington Library, The Los Angeles County Arboretum System, Descanso Gardens and for many Hospitals and Shopping Centers throughout California. In 1991, after viewing his portfolio, the music icon Michael Jackson, contracted with Dave to personally assist him to design and fabricate the majority of the monument signage, graphics and sculptures for his then new, "Neverland Valley Ranch" located in Los Olivos, CA. Thrilled to be awarded the work, the project lasted fourteen months. Subsequent projects were wide and varied ranging from fabricating signage for the corporate offices for the Seattle Seahawks to major identification projects for the California State University system as well as for many California Community Colleges.
